Thomas with his Randoseru for 17 years

How did Thomas Lauderdale, the leader and founder of the eclectic Portland-based international orchestra band Pink Martini, come across Randoseru?

And why has he fallen in love with it so much that he's been using it every day for the past 17 years? We interviewed him at his beautiful old home base in downtown Portland to find out.

Thomas also surprised us by inviting many of his friends and family to share his love of Tsuchiya's Randoseru.

The craftmanship shapes the city of its spirit.

The craftmanship shapes the city of its spirit

Portland is home to many craftspeople. We asked a ceramics artist and a hat-maker, each with an aesthetic sense for durable, delicate, and beautiful things, to see, touch, and observe our Randoseru in person.

The most distinctive and attractive feature of Tsuchiya Randoseru is that each one is handmade by dedicated and skilled craftspeople. We shared each story behind the objects.

My Randoseru rule
My Favorite Portland

Two pairs – a mother and son, and twin brothers – show us around the city in a variety of looks with Randoseru for different occasions and to explore the nooks and crannies of the city that are unique to the local area.

What is your first impression of Randoseru?

In Japan, there is no one who does not know about Randoseru. In the U.S., however, it is still not uncommon to find people who do not even know that they exist. That's why we invited Portlanders to use our Randoseru as a way of saying "Nice to meet you". What were their first impressions?

Pop-up event at Courier Coffee/Soen

On an early-summer weekend, we held a pop-up event at Courier Coffee/Soen, a coffee and kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) joint-cafe in downtown Portland. The cafe, which honors Japanese craftsmanship and serves traditional Japanese food, was a great place to meet customers of all ages who resonated with the ethos of Tsuchiya.
